Aminu Idris is a well-known barber in Lagos, Nigeria. Just a few months ago, his professional life significantly changed after benefiting from reliable and sustainable energy at his shop. Idris is one of many business owners in the Ayangburen market, where the Universal Energy Facility (UEF) through its Stand-Alone Solar for Productive Use (SSPU) programme and together with its partners is deploying solar energy units to promote the productive use of energy for socio-economic development.

Before the solar energy system was installed, Aminu relied on a diesel generator for power. This posed challenges in terms of operational costs and reliability. However, his life and business took a significant turn for the better when access to a clean energy source was provided.

The benefits brought by the SSPU system have been remarkable for both Aminu's business and his personal life. Now, he enjoys all-day electricity, allowing him to open his barbershop every day with confidence. Being the sole source of income for his family, consisting of himself, his two brothers, and his mother, the unit has become a lifeline, ensuring a stable and efficient business environment.

Aminu's clients, known for their friendly demeanor, now have the flexibility to visit the barbershop at any time, thanks to the consistent power supply. The support given by the UEF has not only enhanced the convenience for customers but has also strengthened Aminu's relationship with them.

In the near future, Aminu sees the possibility of buying more equipment and even hiring other barbers to expand his business, all of this fueled by the reliable power supply delivered from the clean and sustainable energy systems the UEF and its partners are deploying in the country. The system has not only improved the quality of service he provides but has also instilled a sense of happiness and contentment in his work.

For Aminu the SSPU system has not only brightened his barbershop but has also illuminated the path to success, ensuring a brighter future for him and his family. Importantly, the SSPU systems were deployed with ongoing maintenance contracts with the solar developers, allowing the beneficiaries to only pay for the actual energy consumed. This ensures that the SSPU systems can operate for many years without interruption of electricity supply.
